No Need to Fear Still Refusing Handshake Infected Bacteria

Baltimore, Maryland, For fear contracted the disease, some people may feel a bit awkward to shake hands. But for the sake of courtesy, let alone feeling it must be removed according to the study of risk of transmission of bacteria is very small as a handshake.

Several studies have indeed been revealed that a handshake can transmit bacterial pathogens, one of which Staphylococcus aureus. Even the version of Methicillin-Resistant kebalnya namely Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), known as the superbug can also be transmitted through a handshake.

But how much risk, yet many studies that could confirm because many factors that influence it. Therefore, a team of experts from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health recently to do more research.

In that study, researchers observed-wisudawati graduates all over the city of Maryland, who shook hands with colleagues and relatives to hundreds of times a day. Researchers took samples of bacteria by wiping the surface of the hands of the graduates-wisudawati.

Having studied in the laboratory, it was revealed that the arms are indeed many contaminated by bacteria. However after classified, 97 percent of whom are non-pathogenic strains of bacteria that will not trigger health problems.

In addition to on-wisudawati graduates, researchers also observed the sample swabs from the hands of hospital workers are more in contact with the patient. As known, the potential transmission of harmful bacteria in hospitals is much greater than in everyday environments.

The results showed that the hospital is indeed a nest for bacteria pathogens. But among the various types of bacteria attached in the hands of hospital workers, only 17 percent are classified as pathogens, and this means less than previously thought.

The results, published in the Journal of School Nursing implies, good manners do not have to be sacrificed just because of fear of contracting the bacteria. The risk of transmission can still be minimized by washing hands with soap before eating.

"If you eat something without washing hands or just wipe my face especially the eyes of the bacteria has only been able to reach the gate to get into your body," said one researcher, Dr. Philip M. Tierno, Jr., as quoted from the Independent,
